A bold visual identity for the inaugural European showing of a luminous new exhibition by artist, Fred Tschida. As a pioneer in the field, Tschida took a craft that was largely attributed to signage and wayfinding and turned it into a movement and fully-fledged art form.

In “CIRCLESPHERE,” the artist uses eight gas-filled glass illuminated sculptures that are mounted on rotating devices to create an ethereal display of neon light, colour, and form. When viewed in real-time, the sculptures appear as outlines, however, when seen through long-exposure photographs, the nearly nine-foot beams of light take on a three-dimensional form.

Directed by Neon Workshops founder Richard William Wheater, CIRCLESPHERE’s visual identity was purposefully designed to showcase the hand formed elements of the neon itself. It was important to Wheater that the creative did not appear overtly digital or contrived in order for it to be sympathetic to neon’s true heritage. By using a series of hand cut forms inspired by the pieces within the exhibition, we created icons to use across digital and printed media.

Reminiscent of exhibits themselves, the exhibition’s brand identity utilised the unifying and connecting elements of the axis to create something sympathetic to its inspiration.
